Default Rule

Configure fallback protection and inherited regional values.

Protection for unmatched sites

The Default Rule provides protection settings when no Trusted Site, Domain Rule, or enabled Firefox Container assignment takes priority.

It can also select a Regional Preset.

A preset inherited by other configurations

The preset in the Default Rule can provide regional values to a Domain Rule without its own preset.

In Firefox, a container without its own preset can also inherit this preset.

Only the Regional Preset is inherited. A Domain Rule or container keeps its own protection settings and fingerprint-related identity.

Configure the Default Rule

  1. Open Domain Rules.
  2. Open Default Rule.
  3. Turn the rule on or off.
  4. Optionally select a Regional Preset.
  5. Set the protection options you need.
  6. Save the changes.
  7. Reload open sites.

When to use it

Use the Default Rule when most unmatched sites should share one preset or one set of protection settings.

Create separate Domain Rules for exceptions.
