What Privacy Thing does not do

Learn what the extension cannot change, cover, or monitor.

Public IP address

Privacy Thing does not change your public IP address.

Network traffic

Privacy Thing does not route traffic through another server. A VPN or proxy is a separate network-layer tool.

Anonymity

Privacy Thing does not guarantee anonymity or undetectability. A site can use data that the extension does not support.

Fingerprinting

Privacy Thing changes only the browser data and functions it supports. It does not cover every fingerprinting technique.

See What Privacy Thing covers for the current scope.

X-Ray

X-Ray records detected use of browser data and functions supported by Privacy Thing. It does not show all network traffic or every action performed by a site.

Browser-protected pages

Extensions cannot run on some internal browser pages. This restriction also applies to extension stores and certain protected documents.

Site compatibility

Blocking Service Workers can disrupt offline features, push notifications, and PWAs.

Strict Shared Workers mode can block a worker when Privacy Thing cannot confirm protection before startup. Either setting can break site features.
