New identity

Rotate fingerprint-related values and clear related site data.

What the feature changes

New identity rotates the fingerprint-related identity owned by a Domain Rule or Firefox Container assignment without changing its Regional Preset, so location, language, and time zone remain unchanged.

The feature is not available to sites that use only the Default Rule.

Which hosts the operation covers

Privacy Thing uses the hosts it has recorded for the selected rule or container assignment.

The operation can therefore cover more than the host in the active tab.

Site data that may be removed

The cleanup can include cookies, local site storage, IndexedDB, Cache Storage, and Service Workers.

The browser determines which data types Privacy Thing can remove. Cleanup can sign you out of sites and remove saved site settings or local data.

Operation started in the popup

The popup shows the cleanup plan before confirmation.

After the operation, the popup reports which data types were cleaned, unavailable, or failed.

Operation started in Settings

Settings shows the known hosts linked to the rule or container.

After the operation, Settings shows a success or error message instead of the detailed popup report.

What the feature does not remove

New identity does not delete the Domain Rule, container assignment, or Regional Preset.
