Connections used by maps
See what Nominatim and OpenFreeMap receive and when they are contacted.
When external services are used
Place search uses Nominatim, while map previews use OpenFreeMap. Privacy Thing does not contact either service until you grant consent.
Place search with Nominatim
Privacy Thing sends your search query to OpenStreetMap Nominatim, which receives the search text, your IP address, and technical connection data. Its response can include a place name, coordinates, and address details used to fill the preset editor.
Map data from OpenFreeMap
The map preview requests vector tiles and fonts from OpenFreeMap. Those requests can reveal the map area being viewed or the coordinates selected in the editor, and OpenFreeMap also receives your IP address and technical connection data.
Privacy Thing does not send a complete Regional Preset object or saved rules.
Use Privacy Thing without consent
You can create Regional Presets without place search or the map by entering coordinates, language, and time zone manually. Other local features continue to work.
Withdraw consent
You can withdraw consent in Settings, after which Privacy Thing stops making new Nominatim and OpenFreeMap requests. Saved presets remain in your browser.
